Slow Food Baton Rouge to host Dinner in the Field

slow-food-2013-8209-X3In simple terms, it’s called the farm-to-table movement – the grassroots effort to reconnect Americans with the people and places that produce their food. A champion of the movement locally, Slow Food Baton Rouge has hosted culinary events, cultivated community gardens, and worked with families and kids to improve our local food delivery system and empower consumers with education since its founding in 2009. Dinner in the Field is their annual fundraising event to celebrate and showcase culinary arts, local farms, and the food traditions of South Louisiana. Join them on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Oakland Plantation in Gurley, La., from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. Early bird tickets are $125 for dinner and cocktail hour and may be purchased by visiting this link.

The Dinner in the Field is a benefit with proceeds dedicated entirely to Baton Rouge’s only comprehensive farm to school pilot program Greauxing Healthy Baton Rouge (GHBR). GHBR pilot programming is currently in Dufrocq and FLAIM elementary schools in Baton Rouge.

Looking over photos from past events, it’s clear Dinner in the Field will be a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
