White Tents to Spring Up for Sunday Farmers Market

Apr16PopUpAngledTentsAlexander’s Highland Market kicks off its spring Pop-Up Farmers Market series on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a crawfish boil, wine pourings, five local farmers, and eight LSU AgCenter Food Incubator tenants. Farmers include Cummings Farms Strawberries, Rome Tomatoes, Bonnecaze Farms grains, Davis Farms fresh eggs and jellies, and Ewing Farms Dairy’s goat milk.

First-time vendors include Flynn’s Candy Company with their Mama Roos candies, Woods Foods’ Sweet Jalapeno Relish, Cochon Cannery, Soul Grain, and Doux Natural, a gluten-free bakery currently housed in the LSU AgCenter Food Incubator. More than two dozen vendors in all will participate.

Alexander’s will be boiling crawfish beginning at 11 a.m. and will pour six different wines from noon until 2 p.m., including reds, whites and roses from Paul Bologna Wines and Z Alexander Wines.

In addition, Pennington Biomedical Research Center nutritionists will be on hand dispensing healthy eating tips and discussing current research taking place at their world-renowned facility.

This signature event has become a community favorite, drawing hundreds of farm-to-table enthusiasts each spring and fall. “Big box stores and massive chains have lost their allure in a culture hungry for community and healthy food,” says owner Lathan Alexander. “Support ing local farmers and small food vendors is our mission. And why not have fun bringing it all together in a festive atmosphere?”
